Molasses Crinkles

Thick chewy cookies with crackled sugary tops. Perfect for an after-school snack with cold milk.

¾ cup soft shortening
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
1 egg
¼ cup molasses
2 ¼ cup flour
2 tsp. soda
¼ tsp salt
½ tsp cloves
1 tsp ginger
sugar to roll cookies in…

Heat oven to 375
Mix shortening, sugar, egg and molasses thoroughly
Blend all dry ingredients – stir all together
Roll dough in 1 ¼” balls, dip in sugar
Sprinkle with 2 or 3 drops of water
Bake 10-12 minutes
Makes 4 doz cookies
